Our story

How we met!

The First Day We Met!”

 – Lumumba

It was October and Glenda and we had both just gotten out of relationships with other people. We had never met but Glenda and I were both leaders in the same church. Ironically we also both refused to date people within the church. One Saturday I was hanging around helping out at a youth fall festival. I was about to go home when I saw this bombshell beauty walking toward me with one of my good friends….

Near the end of a “Free Fall Festival” youth event a friend said he wanted me to meet someone. Lumumba had a big smile on his face. He seemed nice but he was looking me up and down and I was thinking to myself, “What does this little church guy think he’s doing?” ….Now I know! We exchanged numbers and Lumumba asked me to lunch at the local bakery. He said we could help each other with our “financial” goals. We sat down and I was so surprised that we had so much in common!  We ended up talking for SEVEN hours  and literally closed the bakery.… and he never once talked about a budget.

“Our First Date”

Lumumba

At the coffee shop Glenda told me she liked to Latin dance. So I looked at her and told her that we were going out on a REAL date. Before the lock down, I knew the science museum had Bachata dancing lessons. She thought going out to dance was cool, but I could tell that she still saw me as ‘this short guy’ from church. So I told her, “No…this is a ‘Date-Date’ ” Then I told her to pull out all the stops, because I wanted to see what she would do!

So I thought to myself… “OK, challenge accepted!” That week, I ended all of my meetings early to catch a quicker flight back home. And when I arrived home I went ALL out, LOL! Hair…check, nails…check, makeup, lashes, dress…check! He picked me up and I was comfortable with him right away. He was SOOO fun! It was the BEST first date either of us had ever had! That was November 15, 2019 and we have been inseparable ever since!

“Our Engagement”

Lumumba

Dating Glenda was the most amazing thing I had ever experienced. So, one year in and I knew I wanted to marry this woman. I devised a plan to propose before I met her family. I called Glenda’s Dad, and her best friend, to make sure everything was just right! I was nervous because I had to get her to a nice location and to dress up especially nice without giving everything away!

In the fall on November 14th, we went out for our one year dating anniversary. Once again Lumumba asked me to “bring it,” but this time he told me to wear a gown. We had reservations at a rooftop restaurant in Midtown Atlanta. I really had no idea, but we were taking pictures, then all of a sudden Lumumba knelt down on one knee, pulled out an engagement ring and asked me to marry him! It was the perfect moment with my perfect person. Of course I said yes! I had found my soulmate! (See the video for my response…) It was exactly 365 days after our very first date -because 2020 was leap year- and that is how we became Roberts Family 365!
